Hey while I’m here let’s play pretend like I’m going to update this regularly again 😛

Today I slept in til 11:30, which was pretty good given I had no sleep the night before. My #1 priority was to watch Game of Thrones because I had been told there was something that I would probably be spoiled for if I internetted before watching it. So I did that. I can’t believe I wasn’t spoiled at all for the events of that episode. I mustn’t have been doing internet right.

Afterward I went to Whitfords with Dad for some mad shoppiiiiing. I really needed new undies and socks, shoes that fit me, dry shampoo and to check out the City Chic sale AGAIN. I went two weeks ago and got two dresses but they have new sale stock in. Que. The full price stock in that store is always upward of $100, but twice a year they have sales where fuckloads of great stuff is $20-$40. This is when I buy all of my clothes. I spent just over an hour in there and ended up with $220 of new clothes that I am excited about.

This wacky velour-y peplum, and these jeans.

This dress. The silhouette is more flattering that the photo shows.

Target was having a sale on undies and socks so that was perf. Got a pair of cute flats. Had a yummy chicken pesto wrap and a mocha. Got a Sally Hansen cuticle cream, strengthener and bronze coloured polish. And also a taupey Rimmel one that I don’t like oh well it was less than $4.

Watched half of Mad Men and then improvised a pretty yum frittata for dinner.

A good day. I’m so glad for City Chic’s existence. It has improved my confidence in dressing myself tenfold. Also I’m an XS there.

Well. It’s been roughly five months since I last checked in, with my Things I Was Thankful For In 2012 and Things I Want To Do In 2013 post. Today I finished the last of my responsibilities for my first semester at ECU, and I feel really good about it. I mean sure one of the assignments was one working day late, and I pulled a full all-nighter to finish it and start and finish the other, and they’re probably not to the best of my abilities because I did procrastinate like hell on them, but the fact that I didn’t give up on it is actually a real achievement for me. Now I’m facing two months of holidays. So many possibilities. I’m all fidgety.

Shall we do a summary recap of 2013 so far? Yes let’s. I do love to have records, even though I don’t love to record. My new course is great. I dropped my scriptwriting class mid way through after not being able to bring myself to write the first assessment stuff- will spend time getting myself into a disciplined routine writing, and get somewhat comfortable in it before I pick it up again. I think I will be able to. My directing class was excellent, my video production class was wonderful, and the core unit I did was PURE TORTURE Year 10 English rehash that I only sporadically attended and missed a whole 5% assessment for but am still impressed with myself for making it through it. I ended up doing the final essay for it on Mean Girls, so it’s not all bad :P. I didn’t make a whole lot of friends but I bonded with a couple of girls on the first day of our film production class and I really enjoy them. Reasonably friendly with others in other classes too.

I’m not yet in the ideal state of mind, organisation and dedication to really excel and not dig myself into pits of despair with my studies, but I’m worlds better than I have been since I went on exchange in 2010, and I think I’m developing the resilience and attitude to push myself on through and continue improving, without dwelling on setbacks. It looks bright, and I’m proud of myself. My course is awesome and most of my assessments are fundamentally a pleasure, I must continue to appreciate that.

I had a pretty lengthy period of improved fitness and weight loss at the beginning of the year but that fell by the wayside as usual. Still, I’m getting better at noticing my body craving exercise and decent food, and in times when I’m not depressed-eating I’m doing an okay job of looking after myself. Was doing dance classes a few months ago, too. Shall get back into those eventually. It’s all a matter of organisation, and I’m not giving up on my ability to organise my life, even though attempts have never been successful before. Again, I can only improve.

It was nice being as involved in Panto as I was this semester (not very, but present to film throughout production week, and involved in making the excellent promo video), and I’m looking forward to writing, acting in and assistant directing next semester’s- it will certainly be a test of those organisational skills I’m trying. I’m excited about the next show and especially about acting again.

I feel like we’ve had so many more parties and gatherings this year than usual, I am super for it because everyone is great and some of the drunken funtimes are drunken AND fun. So many Disney singalongs. We got to go back to Newton’s house for a party and I played (and won) a 20 minute game of air hockey and Mike vommed through the trampoline IT WAS GREAT.

I’m still utterly apathetic toward the concept of a romantic aspect of my life, and it is so much more convenient than the alternative 😛

The important stuff: TV.
-Arrested Development came back holy shit it is magnificent and I adore it. Weird state of wanting to talk about it but also avoiding conversations in case I get spoiled for jokes and details I am yet to notice, as picking up more and more on every rewatch is half the fun. Arrested Development: The show you can still get spoiled for even when you’ve watched it all three times (so far).
-New Girl has been an absolute fucking delight this season.
-Happy Endings was the other Funniest Show of the regular season, and now it’s been cancelled and USA isn’t picking it up so it might actually be gone forever which is terribly tragic but WE’LL ALWAYS HAVE WHAT WE’VE HAD.
-Veep is marvellously entertaining and I love it and highly recommend it
-SNL has been patchy but with flashes of brilliance, as usual. Justin Timberlake episode was particularly notable. The rise of Cecily and Kate is riveting, and the departures of 3 or 4 of the Old Guard dudes is going to make for an excitingly fresh upcoming season. Who will take over Update ahhhhhhh.
-Parks and Rec remains a jewel in my heart, constant.
-30 Rock ended, I cried, it was wonderful, I’m collecting all the DVDs and up to somewhere in Season 3 in my rewatch, I think.
-The Office ended, there was kind of a sufficient amount of nostalgia to give me positive feelings by the end.
-Community has been a fascinating study, and shall continue to be
-Bunheads was a fucking delight and I’ll be appalled if it’s not renewed, which it doesn’t look like it will be
-Mad Men and Game of Thrones, my two dramas so far this year (until Breaking Bad returns and I get into House of Cards) continue to prove themselves more than worthy of my schedule
-Maron and Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous, two new shows featuring two comedians I like a lot. Good shows.
-Why am I doing a rundown of my opinions of practically every show I have watched who knows.

Ummmmm what else do I need to talk about. My job is growing increasingly dull, but is fine. I don’t hate nail polish anymore, which is nice. I got to see Daniel Kitson again at the comedy festival. That was my fourth time seeing him now, and he continues to astound me.

I’m going shopping tomorrow and I’m going to buy new socks and undies, and shoes that fit me. I”m a bit too excited about that.

❤ You all forever,
Nicola

I Too Am Full Of Thanks

THINGS I AM GRATEFUL FOR IN 2012 (MOST OF WHICH WERE SHARED WITH ALY SO MANY REPEATS)

My almost debilitatingly excellent friends to whom the entire rest of the world’s population pales in comparison – My hilarious and endlessly supportive Mum – The Daddest Dad in the land – My strong, fun and visionary older sister with whom I share a thankfully vast set of interests – My annoyingly talented but Pretty Alright younger sister who makes me feel valuable and fills my ego tank with compliments and pride – My perfectly adequate health which doesn’t hinder me from doing much – My savings account which opens horizons – My job which feeds money into that account without torturing me on any significant level – My manager who is lovely and sometimes gives me lifts home – The Mother Effing UWA Pantomime Society and the vat of talent and laughs and opportunity it stirs – Three terribly fun roles to perform, including one which I anxiously wanted and then fretted about disappointing at – The Laugh Resort and Shapiro Tuesdays for making me feel reasonably welcome – Every friend who supported my stand up ventures – New York’s uncanny ability to meet expectations – Whatever universal forces were at play to bring me into conversation with Amy Poehler – Everyone involved in bringing Peter And The Starcatcher, The Book of Mormon and One Man Two Guvnors into my life – DISNEYLAND – Pickles – Bagels – Sarah Vowell and her books – Female comedians who wrote autobiographies – Podcasts – Ira Glass – Apparently becoming good enough at dressing myself that my friends comment on it – Finding a good bra! – Parks & Recreation – 30 Rock – Breaking Bad – Veep – New Girl – Mad Men – Happy Endings – Community – Sherlock – Breaking Pointe – SNL – Kate McKinnon – Wiig – Rudolph – Wiigdolph – That production of The Pirates of Penzance – Our big TV – Coming 100% to terms with not being in a relationship ever while still being open to love happening upon me should it choose to do so – T2 – Bladies Christmas – The South-West of this state – WA universities offering more film courses.

THINGS I PLAN TO DO IN 2013

Face up to my responsibilities – Keep up my reasonably good sleeping patterns – Don’t fall into the same traps I always have done (ie. procrastination to the point of apathy/bargaining failure), and kick ass at my new course – More exercise – Less chocolate – Help keep Kiara and my friends afloat emotionally – Move out??? – Get my goddamn license – Somehow somehow somehow figure out a way to pursue my drive to perform – Get back into Open Mic with more resilience and without taking other comics’ misogynistic shit –  Continue to make excellent TV choices – Start making short films/filmed sketches – Write a screenplay – Create a blog for general viewing in which I write funny things.

Wow that was really long. What photos can I post that y’all haven’t.

GTT: Santa

Hey it’s me again surprise.

Today I served Santa at work.
He was in plainclothes but he came up to the counter and he bought two of the motion-activated sleazy french mistletoes (yeah that’s a thing we sell) and he all furtively told me he was Santa today and he starts at 9. I was like real cool story Santa. No wonder the North Pole is snowing all the time. Hey-ooo. Santa burn.

After work I did some Bladies Christmas preparation things and I enjoyed it and my thing with wrapping this year is FABRIC RIBBONS and it’s gonna be kind of expensive- I used 2 metres of ribbon on two presents already- BUT I’M EXCITED. Especially because I’m not super in love with the wrapping paper I bought this year, like I was with last year’s. I can’t believe I didn’t take a picture of last year’s paper ugh what times we lived in pre-Instagram.

Also I made dinner the end.

GTT: Tuesdays

Hi everybody remember me it’s your friend Nicola.

I haven’t posted in over seven weeks what a loserfacepants. But it has been an a-okay seven weeks. I’ve worked a whole lot, which has had the excellent consequences of benefiting my savings account as well as turning my rare days off into SUPER PRODUCTIVE DAYS. Namely Tuesdays. The past five or so Tuesdays have been spent doing a bunch of housework and exercising and cooking and other necessary things and I enjoy it. Today I tidied my room (took like three minutes because it was still mostly tidy from last week), then I decided to clean my mirror (with tip from Gemma over Twitter- cleaning glass with scrunched up newspaper, who knew?), and then I went ALL OUT and DUSTED all the hella dusty surfaces and that brought my Irrelevant Clutter Corner (of CD player, flute music and stand, and CDs) to the forefront of my mind so I CLEARED ALL THAT OUT and it feels weirdly freeing. That corner was like a black hole and didn’t really feel like part of my room but now it does yay.

Oh and the Invisible Made Visible show that This American Life did (and that Emily and Lana and I saw at the cinema a few months ago) was released for paid download today so I downloaded that and watched it while I cleaned because it is amazing. Seriously it is the best. Skip the Glynn Washington bit he sucks.

Also like four or five weeks ago Emily started teaching me how to sing properly and I’ve been practicing as often as I am alone in the house, and I’ve improved and it’s nice. Also I can learn lyrics to songs while I’m exercising, which helps pass the 30 minutes on the crosstrainer which I have also been trying to do regularly.

I’ve been really good lately with not TV-bingeing. I try and keep it to 0-1 episodes of anything per day, which is pretty great for me. Also I’m not re-watching Parks episodes so that frees up a lot of time.

Aaaaand um Peter Panto is set to be under way (kind of, still missing the damned Pirate Song) and it’s going to be great.

Aaaaand BLADIES CHRISTMAS THIS SUNDAY I MIGHT EXPLODE I’M SO EXCITED Y’ALL GONNA GET YO PRESEEEEEENTS.

Wordle

Look I made a wordle of the last couple of months of my blog posts. Wordle: My Blog

GTT: Burger

I ate a burger it was good.

Work was slow because of football but Kiara rocked up and followed me around the shop while I cleaned, and bought me a macaron. And then Mum and Dad rocked up and bought things and I sent them to get me a coffee and they did and it was nice. I also got a cannoli.

❤ Nicola (Emily and Aly you don't sign off your posts why not)

GTTW: Plentie.

YO SO I managed to let a whole week pass me by without updating OH NO. But it has been an ace week, pratty mach.

Got over that illin’ quickly enough, Parks and Rec came back and I watched that episode EXACTLY ONCE. A+ restraint, me. Lois’s shindig was excellent, especially notable for the invention of Freak Hallway. The winery on Sunday was really fucking lovely, but I hella vommed when I got home, something I haven’t done before (vomming because of alcohol), so I guess that’s another aspect of my personality that I can eliminate (along with ‘High Achiever’ and ‘Likes school’). Speaking of school this week I sent in a TISC application for Film & Video/Screen Arts/Performance courses at ECU and Curtin so that is a) exciting and b) a $50 expense I didn’t expect to have this week. Movie date with Emily was great success. Finally watched the Planet Earth dvd that I’d had out from Quickflix for TWO WHOLE MONTHS. It was great obvz. Uhm. Lana directed us to a show called Broadway or Bust, which was EXCELLENT. A three-part documentary kinda series about a high school musical theatre competition in New York. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/broadway-or-bust/watch/ Go watch, Lois and anyone else reading who isn’t Aly and Emily. A few more of the shows are back, most notably New Girl. I’m up to s04e06 of Breaking Bad.

This morning I made a toasted sandwich for breakfast so that’s a win. Now I’m going to work and I’m gonna try and get my boots fixed (Mum took them in to get fixed two weeks ago but the new soles flapped off the next time I wore them so UGH I HAVE TO COMPLAIN I DON’T WANT TO UGH I AM NOT THAT GUY. But I get paid today so HURRAY the dolla. Will only be banking enough to cover my accidental spendings account debt, and the rest will be for ROYAL SHOW MOFOS. YEEEAAAAHHHH.

OKAY I THINK WE’RE ALL CAUGHT UP.

❤ Nicola

GTT: In Spite Of

So I felt awful this morning but I managed to get to work at survive my shift. And I walked home because I’m a champion. Then I watched some TV and had nachos and then fell asleep for a couple of hours and when I woke up I felt way worse but dragged myself out of the house to get pizza with a sizeable bunch of Pantees and I felt a lot better part way through that. And now I have leftover pizza to have for lunch at work tomorrow and Friday! Oh yeah when I was at work my manager gave me a 7:30-4:00 shift for tomorrow which, ugh, but I love dat dolla. I did some calculatin’ and I think I’m making about $500 this week hell yeah (that is good for me)
